Camberwell Sunday Market

Melbourne's been having a pretty good weather this whole week, all bright and sunny. We've been staying home for the whole day yesterday after partying on a friday night till 4am next morning! Since we've got no plans for today so we thought we could go check out this quite famous Sunday Market in Camberwell.

Camberwell Sunday Market is only available on Sunday from around 7am till 12.30pm, not available on the sundays before or on big dates such as Christmas Day (check out their website for more accurate details). It is conducted by the Rotary Club as a means to raise funds for charities.

Took a nice long walk from home to the market

Selling pre-loved books

Whole stretch of stalls selling 2nd-hand goods and hand-crafted items

Fur coats for winter

Looking for vintage items?

Pre-loved clothings from as low as AUD5

Accessories anyone?

Girls just love to shop!

OPI nail lacquer, Ms got one for AUD6

Different kinds of cactus

Beautiful flowers too

Even cute and funny design socks, spot The Hulk xD

More clothes!

Street musicians working their magic, cute little baby girl dances to the rhythm happily

Mr spotted Baskin Robbins so Ms bought his favourite flavour of Strawberry Cheesecake and Mango Tango for the happy kid

Most people go to the market for treasure hunting but if you've got no plans on a random sunday morning, this is another place you can check it out. Just sit down at the cafes on the street side for a cup of coffee, enjoy some street music and then take a stroll around to experience the lively atmosphere of the market, who knows, you might find one or few items to your likings. =)

Ms: Cooking Experiment #1 - Pork Chop Cheese Baked Rice (豬扒芝士焗饭)

One of my recent favourite thing to do in Melbourne is to try new things to cook. During my previous visit here, Mr was the one who did the cooking mostly and I was his assistant but now I've basically taken over his role in the kitchen. I've been promoted to 'sous chef' and Mr is the 'head chef' now. LOL! One day this particular dish appeared in my mind out of nowhere, maybe it's been too long since I had this dish that I really miss it badly. After browsing through a few recipes from the internet I came up with my simplified version without using oven as we only have microwave.

Ingredients: (for 2 pax)

- 2 rice cups Rice (pre cooked)
- 3 eggs
- 2 piece Pork Meat (opt. for pork loin for lesser fats)
- 1/2 jar Spaghetti Bolognese Sauce (approx. 375g)
- 1 large Onion (cut small)
- Red and Green Capsicum (diced small)
- Cheese

to marinade:

- 2 tbsp Light Soy Sauce
- 1 tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1/2 tbsp Shao Xing Wine
- Salt
- White Pepper
- Black Pepper

Directions:

- Marinade pork chop for at least 1 hour
- Pan fry marinated pork chop until brown on both sides (set aside for later use)
- Fry the rice and gradually pour in whisked eggs till dry (set aside for later use)
- Heat pan with some oil, fry onions and capsicums till fragrant then add in bolognese sauce
- Put the fried rice into microwave-proof bowls
- Top up with pork chop and pour the sauce on it
- Top up with your favourite amount of cheese
- Put the bowls into microwave for 2 mins and you're done!

Marinated pork chop

Cheese, bolognese sauce and onions

Fried rice with eggs

Top the rice with pan fried pork chop

Add in the sauce

Top up with your preferred amount of cheese

Tadaaaaa!

Conclusion:

- We think that the sauce is slightly too little, it would be better to increase the amount of sauce so that the sauce is able to fully cover the meat and rice.

- The whole piece of meat on our small bowl is quite hard for us to eat, should have cut it into smaller pieces instead.

Mr : Guess whos here!

Brothers from another Mother

Look who just came all the way from home to Melbourne for holiday! What a pleasant surprise and it is definitely nice to have them around during my winter break. They're like my brother/partner-in-crime/poker & drinking kaki. We basically do all the unhealthy stuffs together. Haha! I was initially pretty sad that I could not fly home this holiday but they're presence here will definitely make up for it. Goshh...even now I am still feeling all happy and excited about their arrival. Cant wait to show them the 'Melbourne-style' and get them all drunk this Friday night *smirk*.

So, we had lunch today (we will talk about the lunch in another seperate post so stay tune!) and after that, we head to Il Dolce Freddo! For any one who comes to Melbourne for holiday, it will never be complete if you do not try this gelato before you leave. Especially for Malaysians, you'll never get this back home. They are basically famous for their Durian and Roche flavor, other flavors are yummy as well.

 More gelatossss

Roche and Nougat & Nutella flavor

I had my all-time-favourite-flavour, Roche and Ms chose the Nougat & Nutella flavor. Both were yummy-ly delicious as usual. I personally loveeeee Ferrero Rocher so I am a little addicted to their Roche flavor. After getting the gelatos, we all sat down, enjoy our gelato and basically just catch up.

Teatime with Miss Marple

Last saturday we took a short excursion to Mt Dandenong for teatime desserts after having brunch in Breakfast Thieves with The Bunch. It was such a nice weather, would be a waste not going for a road trip!

After an hour of drive and we're finally here

Miss Marples Tea Room - famous for their scones

A lot of review on the internet mentioned that they had quite a queue to get table as it is usually packed with peoples but we are in luck! Took us only a few minutes to get a table for the six of us.

Teapots and more teapots~ Look at the crowd, it's a full house that saturday afternoon

Kettles and fireplace~ Warm atmosphere for a winter season

'Miss Marple's Own' delicious home-made jam and lashings of freshly whipped cream

Devonshire Scones - we ordered two plain scones and two fruit scones

These are not the usual type of scones. It definitely does not look like your average kind of scones and the texture is totally different too. The texture is slightly more to the soft and fluffy side, it's like cake but not so moist.

Vicar's Folly - butterscotch ice-cream, honeycomb pieces, chocolate, caramel fudge, chocolate syrup, strawberry and whipped cream

Waffles with vanila ice cream and whipped cream with raspberry sauce

Waffles was okay, it's on the special menu so we thought it might be something worth ordering but in the end, it wasn't satisfying. As for the scones, Mr did not like it because of it's texture while Ms find it quite nice but not as good as expected since it is highly rated on the internet.

Our advise? Don't try to count the calories, this is a total diet disaster! Can't stop gulping one spoon after another, imagine the fats building up...*guilty much*...

Who stole our breakfast!? Breakfast Thieves!

How to start a perfect saturday off? Awesome breakfast with good company and a cup of hot chocolate (applies to Ms only)! We headed to one of the recent most talked about place, "Breakfast Thieves" in Fitzroy for our brunch. Opened early april this year by a Malaysian owner, serving mouth watering australian cuisine with a twist of asian, it is currently The Bunch's number one place for brunch.

'As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is COLD'

While waiting for our table we squashed some brain juice to figure out what does the writing means. Mr guessed it meant to say that their coffee being so awesomely good that the boss get's so jealous and he will do anything to prevent you from enjoying your coffee, at least until it became cold.

Where good coffees were made

Industrial interior design with open kitchen

Happy kid with her must drink Hot Chocolate

Dessert came first

Botak Chin - malaysian char-siew pork wrapped in chili-chive crepe, side of crisp enoki mushroom, carrots, orange & sesame, rocket salad

It tasted more like dongpo pork because the meat for dongpo pork is much more tender and soft but the usual texture for char-siew is slightly harder. Anyway, this is Da Bomb! You can't go wrong with char-siew!  Ahhhh writing about this makes me drool, would love to have that tender and sweet piece of meat in my mouth NOW!

The Leprechaun - crisp spiced sweet corn & basil fritters on cauliflower puree & peas, side of poached eggs on mini avocado toast drizzled with basil oil

Mr Benedict - ham, poached free range eggs with hollandaise sauce on sourdough toast add on extra ham & egg

Kalimuthu "KFC" - malaysian kunyit-fried chicken pieces served in crisp roti, baby endive, carrot, cucumber & chili-onion shrimp paste chutney

They have funny names on their menu such as Goldilocks, Thieves On The Run, The Usual Suspects etc. Wanted to try out The Legend but our tummy just couldn't fit anymore, i guess we'll have to wait for our next visit. Maybe Brioche Pain Perdu too? Can't wait =)
